Taking zinc supplements with food every day can reduce the rate of pneumonia in poor children in developing countries by about 25 percent. The British Medical Journal published this promising and surprising information.
Generally, poor children in developing countries are affected by various respiratory tract infections including pneumonia. Lack of zinc increases the chances of children suffering from diarrhea and as a result their immunity also decreases. Such children are later affected by pneumonia and airway inflammation.
Recently, a 4-month research study was conducted on about 2500 children aged 1-10 months in New Delhi, India. The study found that children who received zinc supplements had a significantly lower rate of pneumonia than children who did not receive zinc. And so the researchers think, zinc supplements can play an effective role in preventing pneumonia. So feed your baby with zinc supplements and protect against pneumonia.
